Nudibranchs are colorblind, which I find completely and utterly ironic. The bright technicolor patterns on these mushy babies are absolutely captivating, and they can’t even see themselves! It’s fascinating, and provides a unique metaphor for self reflection.

The contradiction between curvilinear and rectilinear line is one of my favorite things to capture. The softness of the watercolor, juxtaposed with the harsh solid lines of the stripes, join together to create a bold statement. I will always have a soft spot for black and white stripes - and the addition of plants is just the cherry on top.

Focusing on the contrasting qualities between rectilinear and curvilinear line, the collection walks a fine line between mathematical and abstract. Geometric-based patterns and precisely placed droplets trick the eye, and give the illusion of fluidity.

Growing up in central North Carolina, the beach was always the perfect weekend getaway. Halfway along the road trip, my family would always stop at the Neuse Sport Shop. Mostly because they have the cleanest restrooms, but my siblings and I were fascinated with the saltwater fishtank, the live bait tanks, and the homemade ice cream. The brightly colored lures hung along the aisles always captivated me. Sparkling away, just waiting to be in a fish belly. The fond memory of the flashy lures stuck with me through adulthood, and are now forever memorialized in this collection.

These works stand alone as individual pieces, and don’t happen to fit within a full collection. Basically a place for all of the things that don’t have a place.

The women in my family take 45 minutes to say goodbye. We’re always thinking of one more thing, remembering one more update, or wanting one more hug. If there’s anything we do better than talking, its cooking. Every family get-together brings forth a potluck of homemade foods, and we pass recipes around like the latest gossip. This collection reflects on the skill that’s been passed along for generations, and brings forth an appreciation for tradition.
